What Ingredients are in Party Mix?

I like to use Chex Party Mix Corn and Rice Cereals. The original recipe also called for Chex Wheat Cereal. You could adjust the total 8 cups of cereal to any variety that you and your family prefer. Pretzels and nuts make up the other part of the mix. The pretzels could be any brand or shape as long as they are not thick. Seasonings for party mix include seasoned salt and Worcestershire sauce. All ingredients are mixed in a pan with melted butter and baked in the oven for one hour for a delicious combination.

Serves: 9 cups
Cooking Time: 1 hour

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine (1/2 stick is 1/4 cup)
  • 2 tsp seasoned salt
  • 5 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 cups Chex Brand Cereal - Rice
  • 4 cups Chex Brand Cereal - Corn
  • 1 cup salted mixed nuts
  • 1 cup pretzels

Instructions

1

Preheat oven to 250°. Place butter in a 9 x 13 pan. I use a nonstick pan that is 2 inches deep. A roasting pan would work well.

2

Place pan and butter in oven and let the butter melt. I measure the cereal, nuts, and pretzels while the butter is melting.

3

Remove pan with melted butter from the oven and stir in seasoned salt and Worcestershire sauce.

4

Add nuts, pretzels and cereal. Be sure the cereal goes in last to keep it from being soggy.

5

Stir to coat all the pieces evenly.

6

Place pan in oven and set timer for 15 minutes.

7

After 15 minutes remove pan and stir everything. Be sure to scrape to the bottom of the pan and stir.

8

Place pan back in oven and reset timer for 15 minutes. Repeat stirring every 15 minutes. It will take an hour for the party mix to bake.

9

Remove from oven and pour party mix out on top of folded paper towels to cool. Store in an airtight container.

10

Makes 9 cups.

Notes

You can use any variation of your favorite cereal to equal 8 cups. Add dried ranch dressing for variation. Place in Ziploc bags for a great gift or party favor. You could prepare this in an electric skillet instead of the oven. Set to medium - high heat, use the same recipe and stir every 15 minutes for an hour. You could also add extra cashews - everyone at my house loves that!
